The Katet are super excited to announce the arrival of our brand new Fringe Show – The Katet Vs. John Williams. Imagine the scores of Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and Star Wars (plus many more…) but with an 8-piece jazzfunk band… featuring double guitar action from masters Jed Potts and Dave Wallace, as well as Scottish jazz legend Konrad Wiszniewski on Tenor Saxophone.
It’s been a joyous, treacherous adventure putting this show together and we can’t wait to get you on the dance floor. Here’s hoping for another sell-out!
Alas, this means it’s time for ‘The Katet plays Stevie Wonder’ to come to an end. We’ll be taking a break from Stevie for the time being but we plan to return to his fantastic music in the future, not as a mere tribute act, but as something entirely new.
Thanks for the continued support folks. Grab your tickets now!
Hello! This February The Katet are back in action working up yet more new material and hitting up a handful of venues across the central belt. As you may or may not be aware, we’re in the middle of a lengthy campaign to learn and rehearse our brand new album in its entirety.
The album, ALASKA, was mostly written and arranged on board the Star Princess cruise ship at the beginning of 2017. Half the songs are inspired by my experiences travelling the world with my new wife in Feb 2016, and the other half are based on shiplife, what happened at sea, and how it all affected me.
Needless to stay its an exciting and honest album and we can’t wait to record it. I’ll no doubt be in touch at the beginning of next year asking for everyone’s kind support as we embark on another PledgeMusic campaign to make the thing a reality.
In the meantime, if you’re in the neighbourhood, come check out our progress this coming Feb at one of the venues above. The band is loving the new material and sounding tighter and more energetic than it has done in a while.
The Katet Plays Stevie Wonder is back at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a fourth year running. We’re so excited to play this music again and can’t wait to polish off our unique arrangements of Stevie’s tunes. We’ve already appeared at the Glad Cafe, Glasgow and at the Spiegeltent as part of the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. Both were superb shows with awesome crowds. We’re hoping for more of the same at The Jazz Bar during the Fringe.
We’ve got 7 shows for you this year. A gentle reminder that the Stevie show has sold out every year so far so if you’d like to come see, please book your tickets in advance.
Our sell-out fringe show is back for a special appearance at The Spiegeltent on Saturday 21 July as part of the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. Don’t miss this one off performance with extra tunes and special arrangements. Get here tickets via the link below!
We’re playing one final show to celebrate the launch of our Upside Down Boy EP on Mon 9th April at The Traverse Theatre Cafe Bar. For one night only we’ll be playing at the most sociable hour of 8pm(Doors 7:30) and we’ve invited along some star guest singers Fiona Lynch(Sunday Sinners) and Angus Munro(Glamour & The Baybes) to inject an extra dose of “PAZAZZ!” into the mix.
This’ll be the final opportunity to hear the band’s original music live before we shut up shop for the summer to concentrate on our sell-out Fringe show – ‘The Katet Plays Stevie Wonder’.
Come catch us do what we do during term time on Mon 9th April. Make sure and sort your tickets in advance and if you haven’t done so already have a swatch at our brand new single ‘Upside Down Boy'(above).
Physical EPs will be available on the night but you can listen online and order your digital/physical copy HERE!
Got a couple of appearances in January for you. First up we’re back at The Jazz Bar on Friday 19th January on the eve of The Return of The 200. On the 20th myself and singer-songwriters Rossco Galloway and Tica Douglas, as well as a host of other great musicians from across the globe, will be endeavouring to play 200 songs each, simultaneously, in continuous performance, on the same day, fully live streamed, for charity. You can find out about the event and the charity by following the link below:
Then on 27th January, we’re taking the borders by storm and playing a special couple of sets at ST. BOSWELLS LIVE, a very cool little venture by some local guys who really dig good music. Come along if you’re in the neighbourhood. Again, we’ll be showcasing some MORE brand new material that we’re working up in rehearsals this week.
It’s been exactly a year since we went into The Slate Room to record, mix, master and release Balloon, complete with full string section. All in a single day. In combination with Katet guitarist, Jed Potts and the Blue Christmas crowd, we managed to raise over £1,300 for Edinburgh homeless Charity, Streetwork.
Streetwork have a very hands on approach to helping and enabling those living on Edinburgh’s streets and are all the more valued at this time of year.
So to commemorate all the great work and the support from our donors, here’s a short documentary of the making of Balloon. Enjoy!

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone who came out during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to catch The Katet Plays Stevie Wonder. We had another very successful ‘Sold Out’ run of 7 nights. We’re hoping for more of the same next year so please watch this space for previews and updates on the show’s progress.
Live Album Release
Our next release is out at the end of this month. We had so much fun editing and mixing the recording of ‘Guillotine Live@Summerhall’ that we decided to release it as a live album complete with full video.
We’re launching this new release at The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh, on Friday 29th September. This will be our first gig playing original music since the album was launched in Oct 2016. We’re all super excited to be getting into this material again and we hope you’ll come join us for the fun.
This month we’ve been busy in The Slate Room Studio putting together our new ‘Upside Down Boy EP’ with Garry Boyle. The songs are coming together very nicely and we can’t wait to share the results. Upside Down Boy reflects on a near disastrous traffic accident Mike was involved in in Jan 2015 – its dark and its epic. This EP will be available in early 2018.
